Our Curriculum

Piopio College is a learning community ensuring all learners have equal opportunities to a quality education in order to prepare them for a rapidly changing world.

The College curriculum has been developed from the New Zealand Curriculum. It sets directions for student learning in New Zealand by stating the vision that young people will become confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.

The NZ Curriculum sets out values (which are included in the College values), key competencies and learning areas that put students at the centre of learning. It also sets high expectations for teachers, encouraging them to create a supportive learning environment.

Key Competencies

People use these competencies to live, learn, work, and contribute as active members of their communities. More complex than skills, the competencies draw also on knowledge, attitudes, and values in ways that lead to action. They are the key to learning in every learning area.
