LEARNING SUPPORT
At Piopio College we have a dedicated SENCO (Special Education Needs Coordinator) / Mātauranga Motuhake faculty who target learners who may be:
All students are assessed early on in the school year to determine those who may require some extra support within the classroom.
Special Assessment Conditions
Students with specific learning needs may qualify for Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) for their senior assessments. SENCO coordinates and provides this service. If a reading and/or writing deficit is a barrier to a student achieving at the expected curriculum level for NCEA, an application to New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) for SAC assistance may be appropriate.
SENCO Team
We have Learning Assistants allocated to each year level class from Year 7-10 to provide support to the learning programmes. Where students need additional support outside of class, remedial work and/or learning programmes occur in the SENCO room.
- Neurodiverse learners and /or learners with disabilities
- Low learners
- Gifted and talented - enhanced learning programmes
- English is their second language
